Designing credible systems for decentralized worlds.
868b Labs helps teams make high-stakes technical and ecosystem decisions with clarity, credibility, and rigor. We bridge mission-critical engineering discipline with Ethereum’s cypherpunk ideals— advancing neutrality, privacy, user sovereignty, and verifiability without compromising usability.
Our work is grounded in a few simple ideas: complexity should be legible, not opaque; trust should be explicit, not assumed; and systems should remain open, auditable, and resilient long after their creators step back.
Guiding principles: legibility · neutrality · privacy · sovereignty · verification · permissionlessness · resilience
About 868b Labs Inc.
I help teams make design choices they won’t regret—choices that keep systems credible, legible, and sovereign as they scale. My lens was forged in two arenas: mission-critical space robotics and Ethereum’s funding architecture.
From 2022–2025 I led the Ethereum Foundation’s Ecosystem Support Program, reviewing thousands of grants and directing funding to 350+ projects across clients, tooling, privacy, security, and protocol work. The lesson wasn’t “how to run a program.” It was this: credibility emerges from mechanisms—clear trust boundaries, verifiable processes, and designs that resist capture. Hype fades; incentives and interfaces remain.
Before Ethereum, I spent two decades on billion-dollar space robotics programs for the ISS. That work demanded clarity under constraint, reversible decisions, failure-aware engineering, and rigorous verification. The same discipline now anchors my work in decentralized environments.
What this means for your project
- Mechanism over narrative: designs that demonstrate credible neutrality in practice, not just in docs.
- Minimal, explicit trust: stated, bounded, and revocable assumptions; verification-first by default.
- Privacy + sovereignty: agency, consent, and clear revocation paths; no hidden lock-in.
- Legibility at speed: decisions you can audit later—without slowing builders now.
- Resilience: failure-aware patterns that keep systems and institutions durable over time.
What we do (at a glance)
- Clarify: make complex systems legible—identify trust boundaries, key risks, and where sovereignty or neutrality are at stake.
- Design: translate intent into credible mechanisms that balance usability with verifiability, privacy, and open composability.
- Operationalize: turn principles into process—governance flows, upgrade paths, documentation, and transparency frameworks that reinforce user agency.
- Sustain: engineer for resilience—ensure your systems, incentives, and institutions remain credible and auditable as they grow.

Consulting / Advisory Services
Principle-aligned engagements that translate complex systems into credible decisions.
-
Technical & Systems Strategy Review
Independent systems-level review of foundational design choices (accounts/AA/7702, recovery flows, privacy layers, L2/settlement, governance mechanics, incentive architectures).
- Outcome: trust-assumption map, neutrality & verifiability assessment, and a trade-off memo with concrete recommendations.
- Guardrail: not code implementation or a security audit.
Aligned with: credible neutrality · user sovereignty · verification-first · minimal trust
-
Ecosystem Credibility Sprint
Position your protocol/product credibly in Ethereum’s landscape—where to engage, how to communicate design intent, and how to invite contributions without introducing capture.
- Outcome: credibility & influence map, 6–12 month ecosystem plan, go-to-community framework, transparency cues.
- Guardrail: not tokenomics modeling or business development outreach.
Aligned with: credible neutrality · legibility · resilience · permissionless composability
-
Operational & Governance Blueprint
Design the lightweight processes that preserve clarity and sovereignty as you scale—roles, decision pathways, documentation, upgrade & revocation mechanics.
- Outcome: organizational map, decision & escalation flows, documentation framework, upgrade/recovery playbooks.
- Guardrail: not long-term PM or hiring/headcount plans.
Aligned with: legibility · verification-first · resilience · user sovereignty
-
Fractional Technical Advisor
Embedded systems-strategy partner for ongoing architecture decisions, spec reviews, upgrade proposals, and community-facing explanations of trade-offs.
- Outcome: faster, higher-confidence decisions; reviewed specs; tighter feedback loops across design, engineering, and comms.
- Guardrail: not a project manager role.
Aligned with: neutrality · verification-first · sovereignty · resilience
-
Strategy Triage Session
Focused working session to diagnose whether your challenge is technical, governance, or ecosystem—and define the next best step.
- Outcome: concise problem framing, near-term risk/opportunity map, prioritized next actions with owners.
- Guardrail: not a full roadmap or program audit.
Aligned with: legibility · minimal trust assumptions · clarity
Clarity builds credibility.
